The Jessica Rieke Photography Workshop in Los Angeles is aimed at providing attendees a fully immersive and well rounded experience to learn about the business and art of photography. Day one was dedicated to learning about pricing for profitability, working through goals and creating an attainable trajectory, fundamental basics of film, and more! Day two focused on creating beautiful imagery through styling, posing and implementing the film basics discussed during day one.Read More
When Savannah reached out and told me she was interested in a photoshoot while she was visiting LA to finish her album by way of Manhattan, I was thrilled! Then, to take my excitement to the next level - she had high hopes for shooting at El Mirage Lake, which is a dried out lakebed in the desert of Southern California, about 100 miles northeast of Los Angeles. The area is used for a lot for OHV enthusiasts and though none of those enthusiasts were in sight this day, I could only imagine the fun you can have out there! The wind was whipping around fiercely (especially at the start of the shoot), giving us some incredible movement with hair and the sun was giving us the most dreamy light during golden hour. Both of these things together gave us the opportunity to create beautiful images from our time together. Thanks Savannah for the opportunity to go on this adventure!
It's becoming a regular topic of conversation lately with fellow photographers: which lab should film photographers send their film to and why. When I first started using film as a medium to photograph my clients, I didn't quite understand or know how important a relationship with your lab is and how much of a part they play in achieving your overall look. After quite a bit of time spent with other labs, I am proud to say I have landed at Richard Photo Lab and I couldn't be happier. Watch below to hear all the reasons why I made the jump, why it's been one of the best business decisions I've made and the whole reason I hesitated in using them sooner.
I've got some exciting announcements coming for you today, and if you're reading this, I thank you for being here! From the standpoint of my business, this past year has been absolutely incredible. From capturing the stunning views of the Eiffel Tower, sailing through crystal blue waters of the Adriatic Sea, to capturing majestic wildlife while on safari in South Africa and catching a glimpse of the latest in bridal fashion at New York Bridal Fashion Week -- there has been no shortage of adventure! Not to mention, my incredible clients and vendor teams I've had the privilege of working with in between all of that!
A Theme of 2017 // Passion + Connection
It's been a year of feeling more passionate about and connected to the work I've been putting out than ever before. For nearly a decade, J. Lee Photos has been my business and name associated with the work I've been doing. This year has felt a little different though, and I've noticed a hunger to have my full name attributed to the work I've had the privilege of being part of. I've decided it's time to usher in a slight change to my business in the form of it's name. At the beginning of the new year, J. Lee Photos will officially become Jessica Rieke Photography. I'm so grateful to my dear friend and colleague Jaime Dela Rosa of Simply Rooted who calligraphed my beautiful new logo!
Focus for 2018 // Share + Encourage
The other exciting piece of news to share is that in addition to serving my beautiful couples, a large part of my focus for 2018 will be on sharing my knowledge/experience as a photographer, entrepreneur and business professional and encouraging those around me. I love cheering people on, instilling confidence and doing whatever I can to help the endeavors of others be a success. This means (drumroll please) I will begin to offer workshops for 2018. The details are still forming, so I'll be announcing local workshop dates (and even possibly some international ones, as well!) as soon as possible. I'll be covering topics on business, foundational training in film photography, styling and more! If you have any interest in hearing more about this at all, please take a quick moment to fill out the form below so I can be in touch as soon as more details come available. I'll be touching on anything and everything from foundations in film photography, how to streamline and automate your workflow, how to style details, client sales and how to build relationships with other vendors.
Adventures on the Sea - Croatia Destination Weddings
For brides, there's an endless amount of options out there for your wedding day, and I'm excited to offer a really unique and beautiful option for couples opting for a destination experience that is set apart from the rest. Together with a spectacular team, I'm incredibly proud to announce Croatia Destination Weddings. A luxurious, all-inclusive experience for a destination wedding on the seas of Croatia will be available this summer. Imagine having the ability to set sail on your own yacht for a week with your closest family and friends as you adventure around various islands in the Adriatic Sea AND get married at the same time. This experience is complete with planning, styling, catering, florals and photography. I'm thrilled to call Lovorka Curic and Frankie Podrat partners in this exciting venture as we begin to serve a very select number of clients each year for this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
And finally, I'd love to honor the amazing experiences and clients I have that have facilitated such a marvelous year. I can't think of a better way than to provide a roundup of my favorite images from 2017. I'm so proud of these images and I hope you enjoy!
Cheers to a wonderful year and I look forward with great anticipation for the year ahead!
This editorial is simple, yet full of beautiful color and featured on Style Me Pretty! Who knew that bright yellow, blush and pops of green would be one of my new favorite things? I absolutely loved seeing the details of this all come together. Sweet Emilia Jane had such a beautiful vision for bringing something new to an inspiration shoot. Of course, there's no denying that The Lombardi House is a lovely venue and it was the perfect space to execute this vision. A huge thanks to the team involved in making this happen.
